Sedation Dentistry

Overcome dental fear and anxiety with Dental Sedation

“I always dread dental visits. Even a simple dental cleaning makes my heart race. Sadly, putting off my dental appointments is taking a toll on my oral health. Cavities are growing larger, and now, I am experiencing a toothache that just won’t seem to go away.” Does that sound like you? Dental fear is real and is one of the top reasons why many folks skip crucial dental appointments. Luckily, at Greg G. Pitts DDS in American Fork, Utah, we provide sedation dentistry to ensure all our patients enjoy relaxed and anxiety-free dental treatments.

Types of dental sedation we provide

People with dental fear may have developed this from a previous bad experience in a dental office. Sometimes, it could be as simple as the fear of needles or the fact that your mouth is an area you don’t want others to gain access to. Whatever the source of your dental phobia, we offer the below sedation options to help you overcome the fear of the dentist.

  • IV sedation: This method involves the injection of a sedative directly into the bloodstream. We provide IV sedation done by an anesthesiologist who comes into the office. Very thin needles are used to prick the skin on your arm or hand, and the needle is connected to an intravenous tube that delivers the sedative straight into your blood. During the procedure, you will be asleep and won’t remember anything. Someone must accompany you to drive you home after treatment.
  • Oral Conscious Sedation: This method is mainly used to manage mild to moderate dental anxiety. We use a couple of oral medications administered at time intervals to the patient in the office. The patient will essentially have a nap and will not remember what happened, and will be able to breathe normally. Verbal contact with the patient can be maintained during the period of sedation, and the patient can respond when needed.
