Restorative dentistry is an area of practice that focuses on giving patients back their smiles after something negative has occurred. The goal is to restore oral health and the smile’s appearance while preventing future problems. Advancements in dental technology have revolutionized how we can provide restorative services to patients. Now, more than ever, we can quickly and accurately diagnose problems to provide more effective treatments. One of the more innovative services we offer is CEREC one-visit crowns. This technology allows us to design, create, and place dental crowns in a single visit. At the office of Dr. Greg Pitts in American Fork, Utah, we are proud to offer computerized dental crowns to our patients.
Crowns are a cap that covers the entire visible structure of the tooth above the gum line. They are used to protect and strengthen damaged teeth. Crowns can be in many different materials, but most often are made from porcelain because it is a strong dental ceramic closely resembling natural tooth enamel.
There are many reasons a patient may require a dental crown. Injury to a tooth, such as a crack or a break, can weaken the tooth and require a dental crown. Large cavities that require root canal therapy may also need a dental crown for protection. Dental crowns are also commonly used in tooth replacement treatments such as dental bridges and implants.
CEREC crowns are made using a CAD/CAM technology that allows us to treat the damaged tooth, take digital imaging, design the restoration, and have it made in the office all in a single visit.
CEREC uses digital technology to create impressions of the mouth. Using a highly accurate intraoral camera, we can measure the area for the design and placement of the crown. Once that process is complete, we mill the crown from a high-quality ceramic block, chosen to blend in seamlessly with the rest of the smile.
At the office of Dr. Greg Pitts in American Fork, Utah, we have decades of experience restoring smiles for our patients. With CEREC one-visit crowns, you get all the benefits of traditional crowns in just a single appointment. To learn more, call us at (801) 758-0019.
