Kids Back To School And Checkups
ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS SAYS THAT TOOTH DECAY in U.S. children is the #1 most common chronic disease. By the time children begin kindergarten, forty percent of them have some kind of tooth decay! Jjust because your children aren’t complaining about tooth pain, and their teeth look OK—it doesn’t mean, without question, that their teeth are OK.
During your child’s scheduled visit with Dr. Pitts, or during a going-back-to-school exam, our team members will:
- examine your child’s teeth, jaws, oral tissue
- review your child’s dental & medical history
- clean and polish your child’s teeth
- apply a fluoride, cavity prevention solution
- take digital x-rays as needed
We love our patient families that trust their oral health to our practice–and, we care about each one of the children in those families. Part of our role is to help you, their parents, monitor their health.
So, what are some of the things you can do?
- Have children brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Remind them to brush gently and pay attention to their gum line.
- Teach them the habit of flossing every day.
- Give them healthy snacks such as fresh fruits/veggies.
- Limit sugary snacks. The bacteria that cause tooth decay love simple sugars.
- Don’t let children snack too often.
- If they chew gum, offer sugar-free options.
- Always talk with us if you notice any unusual changes in their oral health.
At Greg Pitts DDS, we do everything we can to help you (and your family members) keep beautiful smiles for life. If you have questions about your children’s health, be sure to ask us. We love talking with you about oral health.
And don’t forget to join us on OUR FACEBOOK MICROSITE for discussions about your comfort and dental heatlh. We look forward to your next visit!
